Painting your Dreams, Saturday 29th June, 14:00 – 15:30, Cityside Room, Waterfront Museum
At this session one person will discuss a dream they have had with psychologist Mark Blagrove for 60 minutes, during which time artist Julia Lockheart will paint the dream onto pages taken (with publisher’s permission) from Freud’s book The Interpretation of Dreams. After the event the dream sharer will be given an enlarged Giclée print of the painting to display at home and to revisit the dream with friends and family. If you would like to be the person who shares a dream please email Julia.email@example.com. For the audience there will be a screen showing the painting being produced, members of the audience can also listen to and join in with the discussion of the dream.
Examples of artworks from previous Dreams Interpreted and Drawn events at art galleries, museums and science festivals can be seen at the http://DreamsID.com website, and its gallery pages, and on twitter @DreamsID2.
You can see a recent BBC film of our painting process here.
DreamsID events have occurred at the British Science Festival, British Science Week, Freud Museum London, Goldsmiths, RSA, Paris, Los Angeles (UCLA), The Netherlands, ESRC Festival of Social Science, art galleries, public and family science festivals, and broadcast on the BBC. These have been very popular for audiences, and for people who have had their dream discussed and illustrated, and who own, display and discuss the artwork thereafter. The session is a group experience of engagement with art, with the dreamer, and with the science of sleep, dreaming, and empathy.
